Gold Coast

About Us

Gold Coast Branch of Native Plants Queensland is an active group with members whose knowledge of plants spans the novice to the expert. Our membership ranges from Pimpama to Northern New South Wales, from Palm Beach to the Numinbah Valley covering a variety of different ecotypes. We hold talks, propagate and sell native plants, and go on walks with extensive plant lists.

We often can be found at local environmental awareness events discussing and displaying a small part of the vast array of local native plants, including some of the many plants endemic to the region (see some of these species below).

Talks & Workshops

Several times a year we invite guest speakers who are experts in their field of study. Visitors are very welcome! There is tea and nibbles and plants for sale and door prizes and raffles, it is also a great chance to get advice on your own garden needs.

Excursions

At least every other month we take a walk in an area rich in local native plants. Given the botanical knowledge of our membership, these walks are both beautiful and informative. The Gold Coast is such a diverse area geologically, running from the coast to the hinterlands, from coastal heath to sclerophyll forest to rich rainforest to mountain tops, with pockets of nature scattered throughout the urban, suburban and rural areas, making each walk unique in plants and growth and diversity.

We regularly organise garden visits to see how people landscape with native plants. We hold an annual weekend excursion to a national park or conservation area.

Propagation

On the fourth Saturday of every month, we hold a propagation morning. Members learn the best way to grow native species from seed, cuttings and grafting. You are encouraged to bring in seeds and cuttings for propagation and learn which plants require different treatment and potting mixes. New members are given free plants on their first visit and often there are plants to giveaway to a good home.

Afterwards we have a cuppa and a natter. As a small community group with a large geographic range, the more ways we can connect, the better.
