2025 State Conference

The Native Plants Queensland 2025 State Conference will be held from Friday 22nd August to Monday 25th August.

This Conference is to be held on the delightful Sunshine Coast where there are many diverse environments to visit, and we have planned an exciting program to embrace this diversity. Skilled and knowledgeable local guides will share their knowledge over the four days of our site visits (by bus) which will cover the following vegetation types:

  • Subtropical and dry Rainforest
  • Wet Eucalypt Forest (Sclerophyll)
  • Dry Eucalypt Forest (Sclerophyll)
  • Freshwater Wetlands and Riverine locations
  • Dry and Wet Coastal Heath
  • Wet Coastal Heath
  • Tidal Wetlands
  • Dunes and headland
  • Montane Areas

State Conferences occur biennially in the alternative year to National Conferences.

Evening talks

Friday night we will hear about more about our Friday visit to the Blue Heart and information on the National Conference planned for 2028.

Saturday night Dr Hilary Pearl is confirmed as our Bill Tulloch Speaker on Saturday Night 23rd at the Maroochy Waterfront Conference Centre at 7pm on “The diverse and distinctive flora of the Sunshine Coast heathlands”. This free talk is open to the public as part of the Sunshine Coast Wildflower Festival. Friends and visitors are welcome, even if not attending the Conference, please RSVP for seating purposes to president@npq.org.au

We are nearly full – Bookings will close by July 14th. If you haven’t registered yet there are only a couple of places available for the accommodation options, packages 1 and 2 and a wait list for the bus only options. If there are still any vacancies, registrations will close on July 14th 2025. Wait list participants will be advised after this.  

Extending your stay – you would need to organise your own accommodation, but August on the Sunshine Coast is the month of the Wildflower Festival and there are numerous events to participate in.

Also there are a number of short walks of botanic interest that are accessible by bus from the Maroochydore Bus Station and other central locations. Walks include the EJ Foote Reserve Buderim (Bus 616), Buderim Tramway Walk (Bus 636). More information to come. 

Conference preparation

We are aiming for a low waste Conference – as far as is practicable, so please bring your own hat, pen, water bottle and mosquito repellent etc. We will have some back-ups just in case.

Day schedule (See below) – You will note that both Friday and Monday have later start times. This is to allow Friday morning travel and on Monday some pack up time for check out. All rooms need to be vacated by 9am on Monday.

The 2025 conference is open to NPQ members only (and their guests). If you are not a yet a member but wish to attend the conference please sign up for membership here before sending through your application.

Places are limited so please submit your application asap to avoid disappointment. Applications are only confirmed once full payment is recieved so we suggest online payment as this is the quickest method.
